Indigenous knowledge

Rajasthan’s pastoralists and other livestock keepers have accumulated detailed knowledge about keeping livestock under challenging ecological conditions. They have developed intricate institutions for managing both pastures and animals in a sustainable fashion.

Their indigenous knowledge can be subdivided into several components:

• Ethnoveterinary medicine
• Knowledge about animal breeding
• Knowledge about feeding, fodder, and grazing management.
